Get your books, get set, go: the summer reading campaign “Heiss auf Lesen” (“Hot to read”) by the Freiburg Regional Council and the Friends of the City Library e.V. is starting up again! This year, the campaign will take place from Monday, 21.07.2025, to Thursday, 18.09.2025.

Reading for every taste!

The aim of the “Heiss auf Lesen” campaign is to encourage young people to read and make reading fun. All pupils in grades 3 to 6 can take part and borrow the latest books and win great prizes. Whether funny vacation stories, tricky detective stories or thought-provoking novels: “Heiss auf Lesen” has the right summer read for every taste – even for children who don’t read much. Only club members have the chance to borrow the brand new and coveted summer reading books purchased by the Friends of the City Library and enter them in the so-called “logbook”. Each book read not only earns a stamp in the logbook, but also takes the children one step further in their reading adventure. To give the children a real taste for reading, a delicious ice cream surprise is also planned during the campaign period.

Closing party

At a big closing party on Thursday, September 18, 2025, 4 p.m., the participants will be rewarded for their reading enthusiasm with many attractions: The young Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen will perform the funny play “Gespensterjäger auf eisiger Spur” (Ghost hunters on an icy trail), and there will also be delicious children’s cocktails and snacks as well as a raffle.
