“Radolfzell in flames – the fire disaster of 1825”
Lecture by Christof Stadler, historian and principal
There is nothing in the more recent town history from 2010 and in the 1967 edition, only a few lines document what was probably the biggest fire disaster in the old town of Radolfzell. The fire, which broke out at 2 a.m. on May 9, 1825, threatened to wipe out the entire town and within a few hours 31 houses fell victim to the inferno. What caused the fire and how was it fought with enormous effort and help from numerous neighboring towns? The fire and the subsequent reconstruction still characterize the old town today. And last but not least, the traditional fire drill at the Hausherrenfest goes back to this event. A journey through time with previously unknown facts and documents. At the same time, an overview of the fires in the old town over the past 200 years
