Carl Diez – I stay
On Thursday, 11.09.2025, the Stadtmuseum invites you to a film evening with director Dieter Stadtfeld at 7 pm. Stadtfeld’s film “Carl Diez – Ich bleibe” will be shown, which documents a life in democracy and dictatorship. From 1912 to 1933, Carl Diez was a member of the Reichstag for the Center Party and helped to shape the Weimar Republic. He was seriously injured in an assassination attempt on the Center Party politician Matthias Erzberger. As a staunch democrat and Catholic, he is targeted by the National Socialists. His family in Radolfzell suffers under the repression; his wife Stefanie runs the farm and looks after their nine children. Carl Diez was arrested for the first time in 1933, two of his daughters emigrated and another was arrested with him. During his third arrest, he narrowly escaped the Dachau concentration camp. After the war, he remained politically active and stood up for his convictions – even in the face of resistance. The film portrays a courageous personality and an experience of contemporary history.
